As part of our continued education for our volunteers, Cedars Community Hospice will be providing the following classes. These classes are not mandatory, but we encourage you to attend as many as possible. Please note that the location changes from the office to the hospice center throughout the year. If you have any additional topics you would like us to cover, please let me know. Understand that these classes are open to the community and you can bring a friend at any point.

A representative from the Center for Organ Recovery and Education (CORE) will be at the hospice office to explain the myths about organ and tissue donation. The information will help you to understand how organ and tissue procurement can be honored during hospice care.

A representative from the Alzheimer Association of Pittsburgh will be here to teach and define Alzheimer Disease & how to work with hospice patient diagnosed with Alzheimer disease.

Recognize the grief process and understand the concept surrounding world grief and how Volunteers struggle with grief. This class is appropriate to invite a friend or even your church bereavement team.

Do you ever feel like you just don't know what to say? This class will utilize case studies and role play to demonstrate effective communication with patients and families related to end of life care.

As care & needs change at the time of death, family demands also change. The "Vigil Volunteers" will gain a complete understanding of the dying process and how to support patients & families during their final hours. If you do not know what a "Vigil Volunteer" is, we hope to see you at the class.
Thursday, December 15, 2011 A Year Review - Hospice Center - Noon - 1:00PM
Join together as a group to review a year of volunteer service. We will look at what was done, what needs to be changed, and what we need to due in 2012. This will be a fun and interactive meeting.
Our hope is that these classes will further educate you as a volunteer and broaden your service with Cedars Community Hospice.
