Mission

The mission of the hospice is to provide personalized, comprehensive, coordinated, holistic care services to individuals with life-limiting illnesses and to support them and those who love them during the end-of-life process and bereavement.

Goals

The Goals of the hospice are:

  1. To provide palliative care that addresses the physical, psychological, and spiritual dimensions of service for those persons who are terminally ill. The care is delivered in the setting of the patient's choice within a spirit of hope, well-being, and comfort using recognized practice standards with an emphasis on living while in the end-of-life process.
  2. To provide bereavement service to families and others.

Core Values

We believe that working together, we can create a caring community that responds to those in need. We value and promote a practice setting that is built on RESPECT. Each employee is responsible for adhering to the mission and core values.

R RESPECT

  • Demonstrate respect for yourself, other staff members, residents/patients and their belongings.
  • Treat everyone as you would like to be treated.
  • Stop what you are doing to help a resident/patient or visitor.
  • Address resident/patients/families and co-workers with professionalism and by their preferred name.

E EXCELLENCE

  • Do your job correctly; don't take short cuts.
  • Use "best practices" in all of your words and actions.
  • Bring to the attention of your supervisor and compliments or complaints that are brought to your attention and any questionable practices that you observe or hear.
  • Participate in quality improvement - every day with your actions, suggestions, and inservice attendance.

S Spirit

  • Be upbeat and have appropriate conversation with residents/patients and families; never discuss personal problems, staffing issues, or other staff members; don't use profanity and never "talk-down" to residents/patients or other staff.
  • Create a positive environment.
  • Smile and make eye contact.
  • Express new and creative ideas you may have to create a better working environment.

P PROFESSIONAL

  • Be dependable. Come to work. Your residents/patients, your co-workers, and your job depends on it.
  • Follow policies and procedures including activites such as confidentiality, safety, infection control, and all practice standards.
  • Be honest in your words, charting, and actions.
  • Take pride in your appearance dressing in a professional manner, wearing a name tag, using good hygiene.

E ENTHUSIASM

  • Have a cheerful disposition speaking in a manner that is polite and friendly whether in person or on the phone. Have a smile in your voice.
  • Be a proud representative of Cedars, at work and in the community.
  • Say "Good Morning","How may I help you?", and "Is there anything else I can help you with?" to residents/patients, families, and co-workers.
  • Set an example with new staff members by being enthusiastic regarding your position and duties.

C CARING

  • Treat residents/patients and families like you would want your loved one to be treated.
  • Show care and compassion to residents/patients/families and co-workers.
  • Follow-through with promises made to residents/patients – if you say you will be back within 10 minutes, be there or return to explain…
  • Show concern for every resident/patient/situation by using non-verbal communication such by placing your hand on the resident’s/patient’s hand.

T TEAMWORK

  • Be always willing to lend a hand.
  • Help co-workers with work assignments and by communicating. Congratulate each other when a job is well done.
  • Communicate information between and within departments.
  • Recognize that all units and departments or other visiting staff are important to the success of the care that is delivered by Cedars.
